Logistics company Ligentias huge donation to Mask our Heroes

Personal Protection Equipment charity Mask Our Heroes- set up in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic- has welcomed a £30,000 donation from supply chain specialists Ligentia.

The logistics giant made the generous pledge to help bring much-needed PPE onto the UK medical frontline as the nation battles the global pandemic.

The charity was founded in April by businessman Matt McGahan, whose father Alan was a victim of the virus. The entrepreneur grew determined to raise money to donate much-needed critical PPE after seeing first-hand the sacrifices carers were making for the dying. He used his expertise in procurement and supply chain contacts to make the charity operational in record time.

Ligentia is an official partner of Mask Our Heroes and will provide all supply chain services to move goods into the UK in support of the charity.

Founder Matt said: “A massive thank you to all at Ligentia which has become a great friend to the charity. The company is a wonderful freight partner and their generosity is much appreciated.

“These funds will help get PPE to the place where it is still most needed- on the frontline of our health and care services. The charity has already delivered 70,000 pieces of equipment to over 50 different hospitals, care homes, hospices and frontline services. All PPE is validated and approved by European or North American governments.

Ligentia’s Global Airfreight Director Lee Alderman-Davis is overseeing the movement of a series of charter aircraft bringing PPE into the UK. Lee said:

“Everyone at Ligentia is delighted to play a role in such a worthy and inspired initiative and the donation is recognition of our gratitude for what the charity is doing at such a crucial time. The work Mask Our Heroes is doing is incredibly powerful and moving. Given the time-critical nature of these items we’re focused on moving the PPE equipment via the fastest solution to arrive with our frontline workers as soon as possible.”

Speaking about his initiative, Matt said:

“COVID-19 is a disease that doesn’t discriminate, it separates you from your loved ones and then it can just take you. We expect our loved ones to be looked after when they are in hospital, we expect them to get the best care. At this terrible time the least we can do is make sure these wonderful, dedicated frontline workers are also properly protected. Losing my father was all the motivation I needed to set up this charity. Please give generously and help us get the right PPE to those that deserve it.’

Matt continued:

“Since my father died, I have worked incredibly fast to establish a team of experts and identify PPE available to purchase. This is how Mask Our Heroes was born. We can and will do this – we just need to raise the funds to make it a reality. It is important to note that this is not PPE that would already be going to the NHS, it will complement what they are ordering and we will be able to get it there fast.”

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise the funds to enable the PPE to get to those who need it as quickly as possible and a simple text donation system is now in place.

The charity has also launched the #UpsideDownChallenge, encouraging those on social media to post a video or image of themselves upside down, and to donate. The campaign has already been supported by celebrities including Tamer Hassan, footballer and TV presenter Jimmy Bullard and I’m A Celebrity
winner Georgia Toffolo. Actor Tamer, one of the founding members of Mask Our Heroes and first participants of the #UpsideDownChallenge, said:

“As the nation comes together to support those on our frontline, I’m really proud to help raise money for vital PPE equipment. I’m encouraging everyone to get involved with the #UpsideDownChallenge and importantly donate whatever they are able to so we can get masks to our superheroes. And we are very grateful to Ligentia for their donation- and to all the other super generous individuals and businesses who have contributed...let’s keep this going!”
